LF20 Session Series: Net Zero Energy with Modular Construction on a Pittsburgh Riverfront Industrial Site

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Innovative funding, thoughtful design, and modular construction helped the non-profit Tree Pittsburgh overcome a limited budget on a brownfield former industrial site as they pursued a new, net zero energy headquarters on the banks of the Allegheny River. Innovative foundation systems, rainwater collection, and expedited site assembly helped meet state environmental requirements for remediation of the steel mill site where contaminants such as PCBs, Arsenic, and industrial waste were found.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  • Identify the challenges faced by non-profit organizations when constructing environmentally responsible buildings.
  • Discover how non-profit organizations can build a core strategy for funding sustainability through grants and alternative revenue streams.
  • Describe the owner, design and construction team strategy for achieving net-zero energy usage with a limited budget through the case study of Tree Pittsburgh.
  • Demonstrate cost saving and sustainability opportunities that modular construction presents and understand when it can be the right fit for a project.
