Re-imagining the Materials Economy through Declare and the Living Product Challenge

It’s exciting to see the materials economy evolving. A lack of transparency has long concealed the usage of toxic chemicals from consumers. However, through the leadership of forward-thinking manufacturers pursuing the International Living Future Institute’s Declare and Living Product Challenge (LPC) programs, there are now hundreds of fully-disclosed and healthy products available in the market.
Declare is both a self-disclosed ingredients label for building products and an online database of healthy materials for building project specifications. Declare allows manufacturers to demonstrate market leadership in the growing movement towards product transparency, providing an expanded point of entry into the most groundbreaking sustainable building projects.
Building off Declare, the Living Product Challenge is a third-party verified certification that synthesizes complex, multi-attribute data into a unified tool for responsible product creation. LPC envisions beautiful, healthy products that make the world a better place through their very creation. Companies pursuing the LPC, ranging from innovative start-ups to the world’s largest manufacturers, are re-imagining the materials economy to create a living future.
This two-hour workshop will help you understand the core requirements of both the Declare and Living Product Challenge programs, as well as the unique benefits of each and what it takes to get started.

  • Discover what it takes to achieve a Declare label and Living Product Certification for the products you manufacture
  • Describe how Declare and the Living Product Challenge align with the Living Building Challenge and other green building certification materials requirements
  • Understand the step-by-step process of collecting and disclosing ingredient data
  • Explore the concept of Handprinting to design a product that makes the world a better place
